Odex appears in the news again
Posted on July 21st, 2008
But this time, they are not out to sue anime downloaders in Singapore, they are however, promoting their new online service.
“AnimeTrix”, a channel in Mediacorp’s Mob Tv, will be putting up anime episodes for download. Currently, they have around 6 titles available for downloads, 2 of which are put on in the same week as they are aired in Japan. Below are the list of animes that are currently available for download:
- D. Gray-Man
- Neo Angelique Abyss
- Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge (How to Make a Cinderella)
- Tokyo Majin
- Seto no Hanayome (My Bride is a Mermaid)
- Domo
Furthermore, a Mediacorp spokesperson said that “..So we can offer a riskier title such as Tokyo Majin on MOBTV if we inform the viewers in advance despite its M18 rating..”
BTW: You pay SG$10 a month to download and watch the animes, which I think might expire.

~ ~ Thoughts ~ ~
Well, it’s kinda refreshing to know that Odex is doing something for us after that dreaded incident that took place ages ago. From airing animes that came straight out of Japan and putting it on local televisions, and now, this.
I will look forward to more of their services. Really. Yes, AnimeTrix sounds like the VOD service Odex tried providing us with before their site got hacked and long gone, but they did not give up on the idea and instead, collarborated with Mediacorp to make it even better.
The fact that airing codes are different for VOD and TV means that many many many animes that have being left at bay due to censorship issues are now given the green light. But don’t expect Ikkitousen, Lol.
I’m not sure if Odex has entirely given out the DVD sales thing. Could they have changed their marketing strategy? If so, will it last? And are fans willing to take the bait knowing that there’s the alternative of “Fansubs” out there. For me, I will wait until more shows are available on Anime Trix.
If Odex continues with this service, providing quality, accurate and speedy subs, I do believe that one day, even international audiences will also like it. Future expansions for the company could include working with North America counterparts to produce DVD boxsets with rich content.
What do you think of their plans?
