Out of boredom and due to the fact that I have to wait one whole week for an episode of Rookies to air, and probably another 24 hrs for the RAW to come out, I bought the whole set of Rookies manga. And it’s a second hand set.
My helpful wife helping out in this photoshoot. ^_^;
Here’s a summary of the whole storyline taken from ANN:
Professor Kawato is the new japanese teacher in the ill-famed Futagotamaga high shool, whose baseball club is composed by thugs and bullies who have been suspended for a year from all school competitions for causing a brawl during an official match. Now that the supension is over, the only club’s members left are interested only in women, smoking and doing nothing until, under professor Kawato guidance, they discover a new dream called Koshien. The road to Koshien is far from easy, as they have to get back in shape, to learn how to play baseball and to win everyone else mistrust, including the principal’s and other professor’s one, with only a few months available. Sweating and fighting, the baseball club will find his determination and strenght, as they proceed towards their dreams, while Kawato’s enthusiastic and non-conventional ways slowly change the attitude of everyone near them.
Volume 1 cover.
So, what made me buy the whole set all of a sudden?
Well, blame my boss for making my day bad. But somehow, because of the fact that I’m a sadist, scolding = “WOOOT” for me, so, I kinda got high and all.. You know, the optimist. Secondly, blame my mum who told me we had to go to some place but ended NOT GOING because she did not know that it was cancelled.
Anyway, back to Rookies.

Seems that no picture of the drama was posted until now. ^_^;;
The 3 episodes that it is at now is interesting. Despite cliche storylines that was taken from Dear Boys, I still find the series interesting. Great casts, great fight scenes (and I do meant it), great drama that can overcome the language barrier. What do I mean breaking the language barrier? Well, for one, there’s only a RAW version out there. No subs nothing! Despite that, many people are still watching it. My torrent client shows that even folks from USA are watching it. And breaking the language barrier means the emotion that you watched can be passed onto you even without the needs of subs. Just by watching the actors act, it’s great enough. It drives you to manly tears when you see another guy tearing in the drama.
Screenshots below:

“I love teaching students who have dreams!! Because all of these students have big moe eyes that shine like mine!!”

The tsundere baka shounen: Aniya.

Clothslining from a bike is fatal!!

Hayase Aruka makes a guest moe smile for the first episode.

Probably the only babe for the whole series: Murakawa Eri. She’s the only girl who dares to take on the guys in class.

Not only that, she’s tsundere at times too.

“Kiss me”….

And I really meant REAL FIGHTS!!

“Damn you sonuva..”

And if you have TVU Player installed, it can be streamed from TBS Channel, every Saturday 7.55pm (GMT +9). So, what’s your dream?
BTW: Their ending theme is pretty good. Here’s a full MV of it. (Loved the loli-baseball throwing girl). For those who want to know how parts of the drama looks like, click here. Check out some of their training vids here and here.
