Anime News Network recently visited Production I.G and I got a chance to see their video podcast via Miro. Here’s some screenshots of it:

Anime News Network gets their own TV!! podcast I meant.

He’s the President and CEO. And like any presidents and CEOs out there, they are good liers.
In the 16 mins video podcast of their visit to Production I.G, half of it are interviews with their president and his thoughts on animes, how the anime markets in North America is growing fast, why Japanese must stick to 2D and not 3D (this is a direct insult to Vexille and 2.5D animes/movies alike LOL), how Japanese animators are trying to go Bollywood Hollywood when they shouldn’t be because Hollywood is money sucker and not 100% “do-what-you-like” industry as compared to the anime industry. He goes on talking about fansubs, (I think it isn’t surprising that they know the existence of fansubs) and how price of anime DVDs shouldn’t cost an organ transplant or surgery overseas.
Well,I’m not really interested in the interview, although some parts are interesting.
What I’m really interested in is the studios in Production I.G. More screenshots below:

Damn!! I thought it meant G-spot.. Which leaves us one question: what does the “I” meant?

“SHiiii!! Takayuki Goto is working!!” Btw, he’s quite young..

I do remember Richard Williams stating in The Animators Survival Kit that earplugs are no no for animators. But a pan through Studio 1 reveals that ALL have earplugs. :/ Even the lead animators have them.

Hardworker… Let’s peek a little more…..

That’s a clean and fine lineart. Let’s see another artist’s drawings:

*flip*

*fap**fap**fap* *flap*

Guy: *damn that sonuva beach..can’t you get lost?*
Camera man: *Wahahaahahahahahahahhaa….I’m f**king gonna stalk you…Mwahahahahahahahaha~~ *

Character sheets are important to animators as they allow the animators to keep their drawings in propotion.

But badly drawn character sheets will make your overall animation BAD!! It will have the “Made in China” stamp despite all of the production are made in Japan.

How do you feel when you know your moelicious, big-eyes, fan-servicing girls are drawn by people like him?
Ok, that’s Studio One. It’s where all our drawings are done. Let’s move onto Studio 7 where digital colouring takes place:

WACOM FTW!! Is that Bamboo?
Now for some sneakpeek at some colouring:

Forgot her name…T_T

Hair dyed. Wonder if she uses which brand of hair dye?

Throw in some colour dye for her jacket. My personal suggestion would be leave it transparent.
Re-check the animation.
There was another studio where they named it “Section 9″, apparently named it after “Ghost in the Shell”. They had some cutesome gal inside, together with a fatboy. But no image was taken. T_T

And our guide for the day: Guardian Spirit of my Heart!! Lovely girl too. ^_~
Hope this tour to Production I.G was an experience for you. Pls click on the above link for more info. (The link at the very top!!!)
