Ok. I just finished watching Soul Eater episode 1. All that I could say is this:
THIS ANIME IS GOING TO BE THIS SEASON’S MANLIEST, MOST WINRAR ANIME!!!

This is the only image for this post. ^_^;;;
The moment I saw screenshots of this anime from various blogs, 1 thing came to mind: Gurren Lagann. I bet everyone who saw images of this anime had that idea too. The character designs are quite near. Simple drawing style, and sketchy at times. Colouring wouldn’t take long for this anime.
Btw: If you think this post is another “OMG!! Soul Eater just ate my soul!! MUST WATCH!!” post, sorry to say, but I’m not going to blabber about it as there will be (or there are already) a lot of animeblogs that will talk about such stuffs, ranging from stories, animation, characters, plots, etc etc. I’m just going to touch on the production aspect about it, and some surprises (or things that I find surprising) and talk about it.
Firstly, THIS IS NO GURREN LAGANN!!
No underground world, no big mecha that will drop from the sky and definitely no big mecha that will screw all the way from underground to the sky. I’m not saying that GL is not good. It’s one of the best I’ve seen so far, and I like it too. You do not need to be a high intell being to understand GL. Actions speak a thousand words for both.
If you think that the drawings for SE are done by production artists from GL, well, it’s not. From the sources gathered from ANN, it seems that all the people listed in the production side of things, excluding seiyuus, no one, literally no one, got an arm or a finger in the work of GL. The director, Takuya Igarashi, has an interesting portfolio though.
Not only has he directed Sailor Moon, Darker than Black, Ouran, he too had a hand in the production of Transformers. I would say that his portfolio is kinda interesting. Most animes he directed are somehow, aimed at girls. Look at Sailor Moon, Ojamajo Doremi (have anyone heard of that??), Ouran. The fact that he had a hand, not in directing but as “production manager” in Transformer, could might he could bring Soul Eater to the top. (Ahh…this is contradicting >_<)
The seiyuus involved in Soul Eater, has surprisingly, little or no portfolio. It means that they are new seiyuus! Let’s take Chiaki Omigawa. It’s her first time as a seiyuu and she got the main role! I have no idea how the anime industry work in Japan, but if main roles are to be cast based on their individual portfolios, then having her is a little off. But somehow, she manages to pull it through and brings out the tsundere-ness (Ahhhh..I fail at otaku terms) within Maka, the female heroine.
Even the seiyuu for her weapon, simply known as “Soul Eater”, has literally no experience in anime voice acting. Kouki Uchiyama has the voice of some experienced seiyuus. At the beginning upon hearing Soul talk, I was thinking,”This has gonna be some famous seiyuu.” But NOO!! After finishing first episode, I went up to ANN and searched for SE, I realised that both main leads are new seiyuus with past experiences in either stage performances or game acting.
I personally will be looking out for this anime, together with other Spring animes. BUT NO MORE ABYSS!!! EPISODE 2 WAS BIG BIG WRONG!! MAN IN MAID COSTUME IS DEFINITELY BAD FOR THE EYES!! I WAS EATING WHEN THAT SCENE CAME ON SCREEN!! I WAS ALMOST SURE MY FOOD WAS INCHES FROM DROPPING ON MY BED!!
Lol. Not sure if I will continue to watch that on Arts Central. (shit, off track!!)
Ok. That’s all for now. I hope this anime could beat other spring animes that has famed seiyuus such as Mamoru Miyano, Jun Fukuyama, Yui Horie, etc. I;m not saying that I hate them, but me thinks that new seiyuus should shine. Personally, I respect all the 3 seiyuus mentioned above for their dedication in voice acting, as without them, Lelouch will not be so cunning, Setsuna will be gay, and moe girls anti-moe. But I really do hope that new seiyuus will shine as the anime industry can’t always depend on old seiyuus. Imagine watching 1 title and upon hearing the voice, you will be thinking,”Hey, isn’t this seiyuu from _____?” That will surely suck and many might give up anime. Let’s take Singapore’s Voiceover as an example..
Yu Gi Oh and Prince of Tennis that was aired here dubbed in English has the same voice actor. Boo..Take that and imagine it happen in Japan. BOOOOO >0< (shit!! Off track again!!)
Well, that’s that. I hope Soul Eater will shine like Gurren Lagann. You be watching it too?
